This 207-room facility features over 60 caring and skilled physicians, a 16-room intensive care unit, a family centered single room maternity center and a labor and delivery suite that gives women the option of having labor, delivery, and recovery all in one room. Halifax Memorial Hospital's 20-bed psychiatric unit further complements ther are a's health care delivery system.
Originally settled by Indians, the Roanoke Valley is rich in heritage and history. The Halifax Resolves were America's first steps towards independence. This event is commemorated each April with the Halifax Day celebration in Historic Halifax. Other annual events also reflect our past. The Haliwa-Saponi Indians celebrate with a festive Pow Wow that culminates in the crowning of a new Indian princess. And Harvest Days are a time to enjoy fabulous coun try cooking. Those not raised on the farm get the opportunity to harvest peanuts and cotton, two of Halifax County's most important cash crops.
Culture comes alive at the Lakeland Arts Center in Littleton. Dinner theater programs are held regularly throughout the year. The center seats 350 people for such productions as Oklahoma, Fiddler on the Roof, Little Shop of Horrors, and Into the Wood s. Further cultural diversion for the area include two performances yearly by the renowned North Carolina Symphony and numerous programs offered by the Canal Arts Center.
