Originally settled by Indians, the Roanoke Valley is rich in heritage and history. The Halifax Resolves were America's first steps towards independence. This event is commemorated each April with the Halifax Day celebration in Historic Halifax. Other annual events also reflect our past. The Haliwa-Saponi Indians celebrate with a festive Pow Wow that culminates in the crowning of a new Indian princess. And Harvest Days are a time to enjoy fabulous coun try cooking. Culture comes alive at the Lakeland Arts Center in Littleton. Dinner theater programs are held regularly throughout the year. The center seats 350 people for such productions as Oklahoma, Fiddler on the Roof, Little Shop of Horrors, and Into the Wood s. Further cultural diversion for the area include two performances yearly by the renowned North Carolina Symphony and numerous programs offered by the Canal Arts Center.
